Discover how your breath can transform your body, mind, and spirit.

What is breathwork?

Breathwork practices originated in ancient India and were first documented in The Vedas and later in Yoga Sutras of Patanjali around 200 BCE. The practice has been used to reach higher states of consciousness and to support physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.

When you feel an emotion — like anger, fear, excitement — your breath is the first thing in your body to respond.

.

  • If you're anxious or scared, your breathing becomes faster and shallower.

  • If you're sad, it might become slow and heavy.

  • When you're calm or relaxed, your breath is usually slow, deep, and steady.

This happens because the breath is directly connected to the autonomic nervous system, specifically the "fight or flight" and "rest and digest” responses.

Since your breath is one of the few bodily functions that is both conscious and unconscious, the moment you choose to change your breath — you’re sending a direct signal to your nervous system that influences your emotional state.

Meaning you don’t have to wait for your emotions to change before you feel better. Use your breath to shift your state — from anxious to calm, from scattered to focused, from shutdown to energized.

Why do breathwork?

In today’s fast-paced, high-stress world, most people live in a constant low-grade survival mode.  Long work hours, financial insecurity, lack of  social support systems, sleep deprivation, insufficient rest all keep your body in a state of high alert.

Stress changes the way we breathe. Instead of taking normal slow deep breaths into the belly, we take shallow breaths into the chest, which leads to overuse of chest and shoulder muscles. Over time, these unhealthy breathing patterns become our norm.  The way we breath feeds back into our nervous system, keeping us in a state of tension and hyper vigilance.

Guided breathwork session is designed to help you build a healthier response to stress through normalising your breathing patterns, so you can carry that resilience into your daily life.
